Why can't I buy multiple CDs of the same edition instead of an edition with more channels?  (top)

You might think that you could save money by ordering 2 of the 4 channel edition instead of the 8 channel edition.

Actually, you can do this and would save money. You'll create a great sensory experience but it won't be the best.

Why? All of the aural effects are "tuned" for the number of channels in the edition and utilize the maximum "space" for the edition.

A good analogy can be found in home theaters. It's the difference between adding more speakers rather than a true surround sound decoder. Yes, more speakers will create a richer environment but it won't give you the effect of a helicopter flying around the living room.

Do I need multiple CD players?  (top)

Yes.

For each pair of channels, you'll need a CD player. For example: a 6 channel edition will require 3 CD players.

Can I use my computer?  (top)

Yes.

Almost anything that plays standard audio CDs will work.

Note: Some older equipment might not recognize CDs created on a computer. Our experience so far indicates that this is mostly confined to DVD players.

Will my DVD player work?  (top)

Usually, yes.

However, some older DVD players have difficulty recognizing CDs created (or "burnt") on a computer.

How do I synchronize the multiple CDs?  (top)

With the help of a friend, count down 3-2-1 and hit play simultaneously.

How do I setup my speakers?  (top)

You should always place speakers in their respective locations (ie, left channel on the left side).

The left channel of the next CD will always be to the right of the right channel from the previous CD. This continues for each channel in the edition. Finally, the very last CD's right channel should be near the left channel of the first CD.

This diagram illustrates a six channel edition:

Simply put, create a ring of speakers that use the next CD as you circle the room.

Why is each track only 10 minutes?  (top)

Each edition contains 7 variations running approximately 10 minutes.

Instead of a one-size fits all approach, we wanted to give you as much creative control as is reasonably possible. That way you have more flexibility in how you'd like to use The Othersiders in your haunt.

Why are the CDs created on a computer (ie, burnt)?  (top)

It would be cost prohibitive to mass produce the different editions.

For example, all of the different editions of The Othersiders consists of 40 different CDs!

To injection mold CDs like the major labels do, usually requires 1,000 unit minimums. For the 40 CDs of The Othersiders, we'd have to store 40,000 CDs!

And since our products fill a niche market, it doesn't make sense to keep such a massive inventory.

I lost a CD. Can you send me another?  (top)

Yes. Please visit the replacements page for more information.

What features should I look for in a CD player?  (top)

Times being what they are, it's going to be difficult to find a stand alone CD player unless it's portable (think Walkman), purchased from a DJ supply company, or a multi-disc player. First here's a comparison of a portable vs a component CD/DVD player.

PortableComponent
Cheaper ($15+)
Less likely to have balance controls
Can be more difficult to synchronize because of button size & placement
Probably has track repeat
Usually have to buy an AC adapter
More expensive ($70+)
More likely to have balance controls
Almost certainly has track repeat
Usually easier to synchronize

The single most important feature is track repeat, followed closely by balance. You'll want balance control to make the left or right side louder in cases where one speaker is physically closer to your guest than the other.

These are only suggestions. Your individual application and circumstances will hopefully make your choice easy.

How do you ship?  (top)

United States Postal Service Priority Mail

Can you rush my order?  (top)

We can sometimes rush orders but only on a case by case basis.

We can not break previous commitments to customers who ordered before you, though. We will certainly go "above and beyond" to meet your needs but the answer to this is heavily dependent upon current workloads.

Unfortunately, the more rush orders we have, the less likely we are able to fulfill another.

What is your return policy?  (top)

For CDs and DVDs, we only accept returns within the first 30 days for defective media.

The media needs to be sent back to us and we'll have a replacement in the mail by the next business day.

Note: Damage caused by neglect or improper care will be returned. In such a case, you'll need to order a replacement CD.
